Because the weather caused high seas, we returned to the port in Rome a day early. We mostly stayed aboard the ship but did explore the shore near the harbor. We had a happy surprise when we encountered hundreds of Santas riding bicycles along the sea front. A little research relieved that this is an old tradition in Rome.

“Father Christmases cycled from Piazza Venezia to Piazza Spagna, and in addition to helping the Peter Pan association, the aim of their cycle was to raise awareness of the safety of cyclists on the streets of the capital.” We were quite lucky to be out to see them. Right place, right time.

The last half of this video shows the surf hitting the breakwater. That was the reason for our early return to port.
